Hi, I’m Liz, mum to the Gruesome Twosome (that’s my affectionate name for them). I live, work and play in London. The idea for the One-Handed Cook came to me when my son was born nearly six years ago, and I found myself trying to put together a meal for two knackered parents with a baby nestled in one arm. Since then, like all mums, I’ve become a one-handed expert, multi-tasking guru and a bit of a dab hand at putting meals together to get the whole family eating round the table without losing my cool.
I want to share what I’ve learned with other parents in the hope that I can make life in the kitchen easier for you too, whether you have a baby, a toddler, or a whole family to feed. I want to encourage you to make the most of baby’s nap times, learn to cook in stages, and feel confident in the kitchen by offering ideas and solutions to help you juggle life with kids in tow. I am all about shortcuts, ways to occupy the kids while you’re cooking, plus tips to help keep you sane.
From time to time I’ll also be reviewing products, as well as sharing my ‘Hero kitchen gadgets’ or things I couldn’t live without in the kitchen – from my one-handed can opener to my Microplane grater – these are things I use every day and love.
I am by no means the ‘perfect mum’ (and does such a thing exist anyway?) but rather pride myself on being a ‘good enough parent’ – I do the best with what I’ve got in the time available. Put it this way, if I can get everyone out the house in the morning having had a decent breakfast, wearing clothes, and with hair brushed (and that includes me) then that’s usually a good start.
So come on a journey with me, enjoy my blog, and remember, if all else fails, just pick up your child and carry on!
